A BAND from Great Cornard are preparing to strut their stuff at the regional finals of one of the UK’s biggest music competitions.

Indie five-piece Shores impressed the Live and Unsigned competition’s judging panel during the audition stage, despite only having played together for eight months, to make it through to the regional finals in Basildon on March 17.

The band – consisting of lead vocalist Andy Hill, 21, and Great Cornard Upper School pupils bassist Jacob Buckle, 15, guitarists Sam Bartrop and Tom Livingstone, both 17, and drummer Camden Clarke, 18 – will play in front of a live audience for a chance to win a host of prizes, including festival slots and cash, at the grand final at London’s O2 arena.

“It was fantastic when we found out,” said Camden. “It was quite daunting while we were waiting as we could see all the other bands coming through who didn’t get there.”

The band played a two-minute cover version of Aha’s Take On Me to judges, and are now working on original material for the one-song set in March.

“We are a tight, talented band and I think we’ve got a good chance of going further,” said Andy.

The outfit have played gigs around the Sudbury area and have bookings coming up in Halstead.
