I AGREE with Peter Beer, why should we as ratepayers not know the council manager’s salary (Free Press, September 13)?

His salary used to be a salary plus a performance related bonus and the amount was voted each year by the full council.

Rumour has it that this has been changed and the bonus has been scrapped and incorporated into his salary.

Even the current councillors don’t seem to know.

If the council manager and the council think he is well worth his current salary why the reluctance to divulge it?

Mr Bavington and Mr Keane should stop trying to score political points and answer the question, simple really.
