Town’s iconic scenes make the perfect gift

Souvenirs depicting one of Sudbury’s most memorable scenes have gone on sale at the town’s tourist information centre.

Artist Vernon Lever’s watercolour of Sudbury’s Common Lands, featuring the Mill Hotel and River Stour, features on a range of gifts including coasters and fridge magnets and will soon be joined by towels and key rings.

Susan Gale, tourism officer at the tourist information centre, said: “The local artwork by Vernon Lever is very popular and has earned much acclaim. The Mill area of the Common Lands is an iconic Sudbury scene and is why we commissioned Mr Lever to do the work.

“The souvenirs make perfect small Christmas gifts or keepsakes for those who have visited or stayed in the town. We are delighted with the final results and we are sure they will sell very well,” she added.

Mr Lever, 66, who completed the work in just two days, said he is delighted to see the new range launched featuring his watercolour.

“It is a real honour, especially as I only took up painting when I retired four or five years ago as a bit of a hobby and it has developed from there,” said Mr Lever, who is chairman of the Lavenham Art Society and a member of the Suffolk and Clare art societies.

“I have painted many local scenes and that is why I was asked to do this latest watercolour,” he added.

The new souvenirs can be purchased from the Sudbury TIC, which is located inside the town library on Market Hill. For more information, call 01787 881320 or email sudburytic@sudburytowncouncil.co.uk.
