ONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: Sudbury teenager Luke Congdon, who plays clarinet, piano, violin and guitar, has been awarded a 500 charity grant to help him buy a new clarinet before he goes on tour to Italy.

A TEENAGE multi-instrumentalist has been awarded a £500 grant by a national charity.

Luke Congdon, 15, was given the money by Awards for Young Musicians, who aim to help talented youngsters fulfil their musical potential.

Luke, who lives in Queens Road and is in Year Ten at Sudbury Upper School, was one of 123 people across the country to get a grant this year.

“I was really pleased when I found out as it is quite a well-known award,” he said.

“I’ve been playing piano for 10 years, clarinet for about six, violin for about seven and I’ve played a bit of guitar for seven years, too.”

Luke said he will use the money to buy an A clarinet, which he will take with his B-flat instrument on tour to Italy with the Suffolk Youth Orchestra in this month.

He added that in the future he hopes to make a career out of his love of music.

“I’d love to do something within the music industry, but there’s so much you can do, from performing and composing to music technology,” said Luke.
