That’s the Olympic spirit
BANDSTAND MARATHON: Families enjoy the music and sunshine in Belle Vue Park.
THE spirit of London 2012 arrived in Sudbury as the town bid farewell to a summer of sport with a musical marathon.
To celebrate the success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, a concert was staged at Belle Vue Park on Sunday.
Around 500 people attended the event – known as the Bandstand Marathon – and Sudbury was one of 210 towns and cities across the country taking part.
“It was an absolutely fantastic day,” said organiser Justin Carter.
“The weather was glorious and all the artists were tremendous. I want to thank everyone involved and I’m really happy we pulled it off in great style.”
A selection of artists, including headliner Robbie Gladwell, Phil Harrington and the Isom Brothers, performed throughout the afternoon and captivated the watching crowds.
“It was brilliant to be part of a national music event and to be doing it in Sudbury,” said Mr Carter.
“The people who came stayed all day and there was a great vibe. I wish we had the Olympics every year.”
The concert was put on by Sudbury Town Council and the event was officially opened by deputy mayor Adrian Osborne.
Jacqui Howell, deputy clerk at Sudbury Town Council, said: “There were lots of families out enjoying the sunshine with picnics.
“It was a brilliant afternoon which went off really well and was great to be a part of.”
