Sport-mad kids jump to it

SPORTY children from eight primary schools descended on Great Cornard Upper School on Tuesday for the chance to try out some new sports.
Pupils from Years 2, 3 and 4 at Pot Kiln, Boxford, Monks Eleigh, Bures, Lavenham, Wells Hall, Nayland and Stoke-By-Nayland primary schools spent the morning trampolining, climbing, dancing, playing basketball and doing circuits.
Claire Prescott, sports co-ordinator at Great Cornard Upper School, said: “Teachers at all the schools chose four gifted and talented pupils from each year group, and this gives the children the chance to use the equipment, work in groups and get some specialist training.”
Pot Kiln Primary School teacher Laura Free added: “This gives the children the opportunity to try something they haven’t done before.
“They were super excited about the climbing and basketball.”
Laura Ratcliffe, a Year 3 pupil at Pot Kiln Primary School, said: “I liked the trampolining and rock climbing the best.”
The 96 children were led by sixth form students working towards their Community Sports Leader Award, and climbing and dance leaders from the upper school.
Phoebe Mitchell, 14, Natalie Martin, 13, and Maisie Bowman, 14, taught the groups of children some dance moves.
Natalie said: “They were really enthusiastic and were bouncing around all over the place.”
