The founder of a Sudbury charity dedicated to supporting cancer patients and children with learning disabilities has said he is “flabbergasted” after receiving a cheque for £1,600.

Funds for the Eden Rose Coppice in Quay Lane were raised through the Community Matters scheme at the town’s Waitrose store over Christmas.

“I was flabbergasted when I heard and have had a big grin on my face ever since,” said Rob Brooks, pictured with Lynsey Powell and Louise Keyse from the store.

Mr Brooks said the money would be used to pay for a hoist to help children with critical needs to access the charity’s eco-toilet, which was built last year.
