Reputation of Sudbury at stake

WITH reference to the suggested change to the Vita Nightclub to FU (Free Press, May 28), I say that whatever age its owner Derek Smith is, this is a daring suggestion which I am sure many townspeople and beyond class as unacceptable.

Common language among the younger generation that results in frequent

utterance of the F-word may appear as "funny", let alone the T-shirted wearers of "FCUK". I learned that this means French Connection United Kingdom.

What otherwise does Derek Smith mean FU to mean, as he takes the plunge at his first attempt to rename the venue?

Gainsborough himself (although well deceased) would turn in his grave at the FU suggestion made today.

There's nothing wrong with "Vita", as "Life" is a good name, and I hope for the sake of many people a sensible alternative name may be decided upon very soon, in order to give Sudbury an

acceptable human reputation. This also applies to the Pied Cow.

FU

could stand for Fun Unlimited, could it not?

Surely the town clerk could spend more time helping regenerate the town than moaning about a name being suggested for a new pub.

And I would much prefer the town police inspector spent time tackling

issues that really matter, rather than looking to prosecute someone over a humorous pub name.

More power to Derek Smith and others trying to bring business into our dying town centre.
