Political correctness gone mad
I DON'T like political correctness.
I hate the sneaks, informers and the petty-minded officials who have implemented the dictates of PC ethics.
In recent months I have read about many cases of innocent, seemingly harmless actions that have resulted in persecution, sackings and humiliation.
There was the Carol Thatcher case, where the use of the dreaded 'G' word in private conversation led to her loss of work. A nurse and teacher were suspended from their duties for offering to pray for people who were ill. The dinner lady, sacked for informing parents of the facts behind a serious bullying incident.
Now we have dear old John Sayers, a generous, public-spirited gentleman, an excellent public servant, an outstanding mayor and tireless champion of good causes put in the PC pillory. His crime: using traditional and time-honoured phrases to describe bingo numbers.
I feel sure he is sufficiently broad-minded and broad-shouldered to laugh off the ridiculous charges.
It would be interesting to know who the offended bingo player was and who the council official was who acted upon the complaint.
