New team to save £700,000
A management team that will oversee the running of two councils and help save more than £1million has been finalised.
Babergh and Mid Suffolk district councils approved the last two appointments for a joint management team at a full council meeting.
Mike Evans and Lindsay Barker will join a five-strong team – headed up by chief executive Charlie Adan – as strategic directors in April.
The two councils began sharing staff after residents voted against a full merger in a local poll last year.
It is estimated the integration and staff sharing will achieve savings of £1.5million in the next financial year.
The forming of a joint management team will also contribute to savings of £700,000 per year by 2015/16.
Mrs Adan said: “Our new team faces the challenge of supporting two councils serving the needs of two communities and having an impact where it matters most.
“These are important changes that we expect to have a positive impact on people and we are very keen that residents should tell us if they like what we are doing.”
