HUNDREDS of children have enjoyed the delights of a new £600,000 play area during its first week.

The Little Kingsfisher soft play centre in Sudbury officially opened on Monday, to coincide with the half-term break.

The centre, which took six months to build and is an extension to the town’s leisure centre in Station Road, can cater for up to 90 youngsters aged eight and under.

Tracey Copping, chief executive of South Suffolk Leisure, which manages the centre on behalf of Babergh District Council, said the play area had already welcomed a strong turnout of visitors.

“It is absolutely fantastic to see the centre up and running, lively and full of children,” she said.

“We have been in the process of doing this for three years and I am so pleased we have produced what we set out to.”
