Nanny state to blame for bingo lingo row
UNFORTUNATELY Sudbury, in the last few days, has become a name to be laughed at both in the national press and on television news due to the fact that certain traditional bingo phrases can no longer be called.
This is not the fault of either the organiser, John Sayers, or Mrs Brotherwood, who gave him this advice. This example of political correctness is another typical symptom of that which we have allowed to creep into our day to day lives.
The fault lies at the door of Westminster where every government since and including Ted Heath's has been determined and has enjoyed bringing our once great United Kingdom into ridicule. Our MPs are only the people that can do something to right the wrongs and we, therefore, are also at fault for voting for any party that is determined to let this rot continue. Let us think of this when we asked to put them into power this coming year because it will get worse year after year.
MPs will say that rules on political correctness and human rights are made in Brussels. I would ask readers if they are happy to be told what to do by a bunch of corrupt, unelected and overpaid idiots sitting with nothing better to do somewhere in Europe.
However, if two fat ladies, sitting in a bingo hall are upset at the calling, I would ask them why they went there knowing full well the traditional shout when 88 comes up!
When I was at school we were often subjected to and used some derogatory remarks to other pupils. I do not believe that it did anyone any lasting damage, and now being told that I am old, bald and a typical white honky bigot I could not care less. Whatever happened to the traditionally used response: "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me."
The sooner we get rid of this nanny state of affairs the better we shall all be!
