Lucky to have known this man
I REALLY enjoyed reading the article on the retirement of Geoff Diaper (Free Press, September 3), and it sort of pulled a curtain on a part of my life.
I am fully aware that I will never see the same again, yet also aware that I am lucky to have witnessed the life of the man, his family, and that comfortable time when risks were few, and situations were almost constant and reliable.
Such a shame that the leaving of such a normal and pleasant family should be marred in such a drastic way by a murder. This man and his family ran that shop for decades.
They paid their way, they served the public, they did what was expected of them, and then with a smile and a wave, they said their goodbyes.
And then a lad is killed just outside Geoff Diaper's premises. I find that very sad.
