Less talk and more action

MORE action and less talk is needed to resolve the future management of car parks in Sudbury and Hadleigh, according to councillors.

With the district council set to rule out charging for stays of less than three hours, members have called on those bodies which have expressed an interest in running the car parks to act quickly.

Sudbury Town Council has teamed up with the chamber of commerce and local retailers to come up with a series of proposals aimed at taking control of the town’s car parks.

Speaking during Thursday’s meeting, Richard Kemp, councillor for Long Melford, said it was now time for these plans to come to fruition.

“I am placing my faith in the town council and it should start to get on with it instead of writing letters and drawing up plans,” he said. “The time has come for action.”

Committee chairman Nick Ridley said a decision on the possible takeover needed to be made one way or the other.

“There has been a lot of talk and we need to get to the bottom of it,” he said.

As part of the proposals, which were submitted in early December, the town council is looking to set up a Community Interest Company (CIC) to manage car parks across the district.

Babergh must save £1.3million from this year’s budget and a total of £3.5million over the next three years.
