Job well done

THE gas lights have been turned off and someone has found the light switch.

It's as if Melford Road has gone from Victorian times into the 21st century over night. No more walking or driving home in the dark.

We can now cross the road safely and sit in the dry waiting for a bus, and doesn't it look smart? All this work carried out without gridlock into or out of town.

In the past the town has come to a standstill whenever we have the smallest of roadworks – but this time nothing. Two days of traffic lights and even then very little delay – the warning signs said major works for three weeks.

I think, and I don't say this very often, a big thank-you should go to the planners, contractors and council for a job well done. (Note for Suffolk County Council: can we have the same team next time please?)

Yes, one or two had their drives cut off for a short period, but overall very little inconvenience.

And yes I mustn't forget our local councillors for keeping up the fight over the past years to get these improvements. Proof that everything comes to he who waits.

I know money is tight and sometimes we have to wait, but what chances of speed limit repeater signs as traffic still speeds past the Chaucer Road junction, more so since the signs were moved to the roundabout. Accidents are and will keep happening until speed is cut.

Once again, well done to all those concerned with the improvements.
