How do they arrive at jobs figure?
THE period of consultation for the Prolog development on the Chilton Industrial Estate is now over but everyone should be aware of what we could be seeing there in the future if this planning application goes through unchanged.
The warehouses that Prolog is proposing to put up will be the two largest buildings in Sudbury.
They will have the floor area of over five football pitches and a height of 13.8 metres (that's 45 feet).
Situated very close to Chilton church, one will be only 28 inches lower than the tower of this Grade I listed building.
Being listed Grade I means that the church and its setting is considered historically and architecturally to be of national importance.
It is very hard to argue against a proposal to create 500 new jobs. The applicant knows this.
There is no indication of how the figure of 500 is worked out and if, in two years time when these structures are complete, it turns out that only 150 jobs have been created then he can always claim to have just lost a big contract or that the market has changed.
On careful examination the promise of creating 500 new jobs is not quite as clear as it may seem.
The wording in the application is that Prolog estimates that a development of this scale could create the equivalent of up to 500 full time jobs.
Is there anyone who can explain precisely what this phrasing means?
