Help to make town safer
VOLUNTEERS are being urged to step forward to help in the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour.
Sudbury Police and the town council are calling on residents to join Street Watch.
As part of the scheme – which is already running in Great Cornard – volunteers patrol the streets in pairs on the look out for criminal activity.
Inspector Paul Crick, from Sudbury Police, said: “This scheme is all about good citizenship and it is really taking Neighbourhood Watch to the next level.
“This is a chance for members of the public to work in partnership with the police to enhance the sense of community spirit.
“It is not about replacing police officers, it is about working together to deter crime and to give residents a greater sense of security.”
Those taking part will be required to patrol Sudbury’s north ward, which includes Melford Road, Woodhall and part of the Springlands area.
Sue Brotherwood, Sudbury Town Council clerk, said: “We really do hope people come forward to take part in this scheme – it is something the town council fully supports and an initiative we believe could make Sudbury an even nicer and safer place to live, work and visit.”
