Groups get slice of 10k

MORE than 50 charities have benefited from money raised by the community group that puts on The Big Night Out fireworks show every year in Long Melford.

Project Seven gave away cheques to the value of £10,500 to 53 village groups and charities as a result of its fundraising activities during the year, including the well-attended fireworks show in November.

The cheques ranged from £50 to £1,000, and groups receiving the windfalls included the village cricket club, primary school, playgroup, football club, Holy Trinity Hospital and the over 60s club.

Project Seven was started in 1982 and got its name because seven people were present at the inaugural meeting.

The aim of the group is to help as many charities and organisations in the village as possible and, in 2010, it gave away more than £10,000 to 44 groups.
