Decision on Boxford new homes
PLANS for 21 new homes in Boxford will go before councillors next week.
A decision on the scheme, which would include seven affordable homes on land west of Swan Street, had been due at Babergh District Council’s development committee last month, only for councillors to delay their verdict.
This came after members heard negotiations between council officers and the applicant, David Keeley, of Preston St Mary, had stalled over the amount of Section 106 money to be paid – cash offered to offset the impact of large developments.
The proposals will now go before councillors on Wednesday with case officer Deborah Board recommending that £48,000 be donated.
However, the plans, which will also see a new access road created and off-street parking for 11 vehicles, have been the subject of some concern.
Boxford Parish Council has objected to all three consultations regarding the development, despite the plans being reduced in size from 25 homes to 21.
The council claims the development will still be too large, will cause traffic problems and have an adverse visual impact on the area.
Many residents have also written to the district council voicing their displeasure. Issues raised include concerns that the design is not in keeping with the village, and the affect the homes would have on the sewage and drainage systems.
A report on the proposals has recommended councillors grant planning permission, subject to a Section 106 agreement.
