Couple’s golden moment

HAPPY EVER AFTER: June and Ken French will be celebrating 50 years of marriage tomorrow.

A COUPLE celebrating 50 years together say they struck gold when they met.

June and Ken French, from Melford Road in Sudbury, celebrate their golden wedding tomorrow.

Mrs French, 69, said the secret to a successful marriage was simple.

“We just keep out of each others way when we have to,” she said. “We have a nice family and have always stuck together.”

Mrs French, who has lived in the same street all her life and used to work at the town’s Woolworths store, said she had fond memories of her wedding day at St Andrew’s Church in Great Cornard in 1961.

“It was a big day and, as Ken is originally a Londoner, there were lots of people there,” she said.

“The church was very pretty and we were really happy, and still are.”

Mrs French added that the most important thing to come from their time together were their three children, Lynn, Tracey and Christian – who all still live in the Sudbury area – and their four grandchildren.

“It is wonderful having them all around,” she said. “Family and friends are the main thing in life.”

To mark their special day, the pair will be enjoying a meal with family at the Mill Hotel in Walnut Tree Lane – where Mr French, a former fireman, now works – on Saturday.
